The term guarantee issue refers to the amount of coverage you can elect without additional medical underwriting and completing what is known as Evidence of Insurability (EOI) or a health questionnaire. Guarantee issue most commonly applies to benefits like Voluntary Life insurance or Critical Illness insurance.

Typically, guaranteed-issue coverage is only available once, either during the initial enrollment of the benefits offered by a carrier or to a new hire. Additional underwriting may be required if coverage is waived during this initial period or requested to be increased at a future enrollment.
